    Hi iztrueman
    If it was me I'd get a BLR 308 with a 1-4 or 2x8 .
However, seems you've had a fair bit of good advice either way over the last 30 odd hrs from the folk above who have walked the talk.
You've probably been busy, but if you rejoined the conversation people may have an idea of where your leaning.

you very rarely get to collect the projectile when you use a 45.70. most just leave big exit wounds.

The last pig I got with my 30 30 94winchester trapper was running down a hill. Nail him just below the ear at aprox twenty five meters with factory iron sights.

Yeh The old 94 seems good out to that.
26 meters and past though, they can't hit shit.

It's bark is bigger thank its bite, just so awesome.

Is your eye sight good enough for peep sights ? You can get some online for the 336

Both marlin 336 and winny 94 will shoot round 1 - 1.25" at 100m with right shooter and ammos. Found them very good with small scope for NZDA running deer competitions because of quick action.

I prefer the 94 because its slimmer and lighter but that's just preference. Tidy ones are dearer because of classic value, but last models before Winchester went bust were not so good - now produced by Miroku. Marlin 336 also a wee gem - I'm happy with either.

Like the idea of the Marlin 444 or 450 lever actions - black bear rounds. Big slugs (265 - 350gr) with thumping energy that can mow down trees at 100...... Now one of those wd be fun to play with. Till your shoulder broke..

Cast bullet or jacketed. Ive shot a scrub bull at 75yds with a trapdoor 4570 black powder and a cast bullet, went down like a sack of spuds. Got the bullet back under the skin on the off side had smashed two ribs, and shoulder blade. Bone fragments cut the lungs and heart up the bullet was mashed up but still weighed 400gr started at 485. My mate was ready to back up with his 303 in case things went wrong. I'm still to get a deer with it.

the XS is by far the cutest little sight you could fit too the 94. XS Sight Systems Ghost Ring
They can be bought for stuff all from brownels and fit the scope mount holes already tapped in the receiver. You can also buy a threaded ring that accepts lyman inserts for a smaller appiture if you prefere.
Ive had lyman 66 and wiliams aswell , but the XS wins hands down and doesn't interfere with your hand when carrying the rifle.

    I had a 94 that I couldn't hit a 40 gallon drum with at 10 feet. I took it too my mate ( X nz commonwealth games team ) .
He lay down and casualy put 3 shots into a clover leaf at 120metres.... We emptied the mag too heat the barrel up , then he put 2 more shots into the original group.
It measured 35mm centre too centre ....Shot with factory iron sights and no rest.....
Anyone thinking of ruining a handy little repeater with a scope should learn too shoot IMO.
