Buy a tikka mate.
I went sako a7, it's a brilliant rifle and is better than me but I've had a tikka and if I ever spend my hard earned again I will go tikka.

I've also had a sako carbon light but now use a Tikka they both shoot the same the sako feels better but I could buy 4 Tikka for one carbon light.

My .72 musket is only 5 1/2 pounds

But it's not rifled
So I guess it doesn't count

+1 for the Tikka . Trim the barrel if appropriate , carbon stock and Dpt can .
Can't really go wrong .
And later if you want can trim more weight with things like titanium bolt handle , fluted bolt etc .
I know some think the Tikka boring and common but they sell by the boat load for a reason ...

If you can find one ...An SSR ...weighs in at 2.3kg with a suppressor, scope and loaded....fits in a backpack and accurate....But big cals recoil like a donkey....But he only made a few and is not making any more....Or you can find a gunsmith and make something similar.

One point to remember when going 'lightweight' is that the action and the barrel are the two heaviest components. Go for a falling block or break open can result in a smaller action = less weight and a light profile barrel helps...but it has its down side...light rifles = more felt recoil impact from the rifle to your shoulder (actual energy is the same but the lighter weight accelerates quicker into the shoulder....) and you start having to lose the 'magazine space' as that becomes additional weight. Upside is that you can wear it like a pair of binos



These are very nice rifles to use.

Remington Model 7 (maybe hard to find new since Remington went bust!)

Stainless KS (kevlar stock) 7mm08 would be factory, light and reliable but probably not made since the early 2000's.

Just snagged one here in the UK with a 16" barrel for £400 as they are not popular.

The price. The sako is great,and I'll never sell it . The a7 has 3 lugs on the bolt, a good magazine release system and the roughtech stock is pretty good. But the extra $1000ish would have been better put towards good glass. And parts for the a7 are sparse. Tikka rifles generally out perform alot of their owners.

I'm finding my X Bolt is handy (haven't weighed it) but it is the first rifle I've owned with the stainless/composite combination after carrying a BSA Viscount which wasn't bad and a Mod 88 Winchester which also is not heavy relatively speaking.

I also own a Xbolt in 7rm and love it, mine definitely isn’t light as it’s got a 26” barrel. Only thing really stopping me buying another in 7mm08 is the lack of aftermarket bits for it. Other than that they are great rifles

Plus yet another for the Tikka T3 Lite. I have 2, a .223 and a 6.5x55mm. The latter has a 6 power Leupold scope and weighs a little under 6kg (about 6.5 pounds for the metrically challenged) ready to go. It is the rifle I had always wanted and is unlikely to be replaced. Other rifles have joined it in the cupboard in support roles however. Just remember that a light rifle needs a light scope and other components to remain light.

So who is metrically challenged ?

Kimber hunter is the best $$ for gram rifle available. Cost close to a tikka and a full pound lighter. Take the goop out of the stock(easily done in 10 mins), pair with a nice light scope like a vx3 2.5-8 and you'll have a sub six pound shooter.
