    limb saver experiences

    Hello lads !
I was using a 12 gauge on opening weekend and I got hammered by it ! It is an old nikko under over 2 3/4.
Im thinking about buying a limb saver grind to fit pad for it.
Does anyone have any experiences with these pads if so can you share...
    Thank you in advance

Great pads, should help plenty with 23/4" shells. Go to the Limbsaver site and download their pad sizes diagrams, check against your stock for size. I usually get away buying a pad to fit without the reshaping. Keep away from pads that fit synthetic stocks as their normally not flush.

Put one on my Tikka 300 Win Mag and made it heaps better in terms of recoil, the old pad was hard and pretty brutal compared to the limbsaver.

I have 2 pachmaher slip ons...one lives on my Bakail u/o AND THEY WORK REALLY WELL
    doesnt look out of place.
this isnt a criticism, honest question....just what loads were you using to beat you up with 2 3/4 " loads????
if you drop payload weight down to the awesome 30-32grn loads the recoil is dropped and so are the ducks. the remington nitro and winchester duck load are both 35grms and both arent excessive in recoil department.
IF you were using remington hyper steel.....I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY ...they are naasty.

Go nice on a rifle, no experience with them on a shotgun though. My guess is it would work well

hey micky duck , im using steel 2 3/4 shot standard brought from gunstore . I had surgery on both my shoulders some 10+ years ago to stop them dislocating and where the scar tissue is it gets a hammering and i turn black and blue. Im not sure if its the shoulder surgery or the guns not the right fit for me but i was given the gun and cannot sell it so i thought id try the limb saver first. It kicks like a mule and is not fun to shoot when it beats me up.

What is the recoil like normally for a 2 3/4 shotgun with no padding on the stock plate ?

depends entirely on the load.... seriously go and find some 30 or 32 grm loads...falcon do some...gamebore do some ...winchester Xpert do too...we have killed birds with all of them. they are noticably less in recoil than the 35-36grm loads.
steel loading recoil more than lead...BUT a lot of it is the noise factor...EG I made up lots of 7/8th oz and 1 oz steel loads going along at 15-1600fps...they didnt kick stuff all but mate were they LOUD.... definately wear earmuff material.
my bakail U/O is rather brutal to use for long without recoil pad with steel loads...slip on the pachmayer and its completely different gun to use.
still interested to know what load it is you have been using.

What is the choking, if tight choking have they been opened up for steel shot.
