Currently have a Tikka 223 1:8 and 6.5 PRC Seekins (after my patience ran out searching for a 7mm Short mag) and busy with a 284WIN light setup for hunting. So effectively covered from a hunting perspective, but already have a 6x47 that is effectively only a comp gun and to heavy for hunting. Currently struggling to justify two target rifles. So considering something that is mostly setup for target LR, but that can be used for hunting if required.
The 7mm vs 300 is and always will be a interesting one. From a bullet development perspective, I think we are going to see more in the 300 area over the next few years.
The WSM is a very good option. The only downside is that you have to go custom to optimise the use of heavier bullets.
Would I prefer a custom or top end $10k rifle? Hell yes all day long! But IMO you don't require a 10k rifle to shoot 2000 meters, but there are guys that use that as a very effective sales pitch.
My tikka with a bartlein barrel chambered for 180s in 7mm blaser mag would have found it's way accurately to 2000 I'm sure iv never had a rifle that shot so well. Was around $3000. Certainly not an unrealistic goal on a budget
