    Longest continuously owned firearms

I think we have played this game before.
But @dannyb just inspired me to ask again.

What is the longest continuously owned firearm you have that you brought yourself ?

The question is intended to take our family heirlooms from this post

So what you brought, why you brought it and why you still have it.

Mine is a left hand Anschutz 22 LR I brought 40 years ago with Hilver steel mounts and a 2-7 Leupold.
The only LH model they offered was pretty high end and expensive.
But there's a lesson there in buying right and it only hurts once.
It still does exactly what it was brought too do and as well as any other rifle since.

I expect there will be some of you that can significantly improve on 40 years

I bought a Marlin single shot 22 and a box of ammo for $12 when I was nine, so fourty nine years. Has a ring bulge in the barrel hence the low price. Shot a lot of Hares with that 22 after school when shifting the break fence

The one constant in the safe, shot 95% of my animals with it. Bit of a change recently as it’s a 6.5 creedmoor now.
Still have it as it still does what it says on the box and a. It on nostalgia

    Greetings,
My first centrefire was a Remington 700 ADL in .308 Win bought new about 1977 (manufactured in 1975) and cost $242.00 including two packets of CAC ammo. My first .22 is earlier and is a Ruger 10-22 Sporter bought new in the late 1960's and cost $99.00. At the time the base models were $84.00.

my BDL rem 700 in .222 bought new in 1975 $220- not collectable - but have shot so many animals with it- carried it so many miles culling goats and deer - on second barrel -not even the best for that job - that honour would go to the sako vixen or A2 model sako with a built in magazine - but never to be sold - very accurate and reliable - trigger second to none - but can be a pig to reload in a hurry due to the magazine being designed for .308 length cartridges with a block in it for .222 - on mobs of goats used it as a single shot

Brno zkk601 bought it at 16 years old. Prior to the guilt driven gun theft it would have been my SKS.

I bought the Brno after some good advice from Ballingers in CHCH. I really wanted the Win model 70 which was more expensive but the shop keeper explained how much better the Brno was and how much more gun I was getting for less money.I should really bring it over here one day.

My point is that the animals aren't wearing armour and the rifles don't suddenly need to be twice as accurate and powerful to shoot them.
If you brought wisely when you were in your teens or early 20s you could use it for a lifetime.
Nice to hear that some guys have worn out barrels on them.

I seriously wonder that some of the currently popular new budget rifles will be like in 40 to 50 years .
