    M305 scope mount question

Just looking into some options at the moment, wondering on the practical differences between these two mounts.

    One screw thing:

    M14 / M1A / M305 WEAVER SCOPE MOUNT | Trade Me

    And two screw thing

    AIM M14 / M1A / M305 WEAVER SCOPE MOUNT | Trade Me

Anyone have any experience with either setup?

Neither will probably keep zero for very long due to the basic design, but I can personally recommend the CASM mount from m14.ca. I had one on my M-305 & it was awesome, nice & low to the breech, & with a backup peep sight as part of the mount. It actually mounts in the rear sight pocket, rather than on the side, so it's real sturdy, & could probably have used it as a carry handle if I wanted!

the second one requires you to drift out the strip loader and install a block.

Thanks for the replies guys. That CASM mount does look pretty swish. Bit of fitting isn't an issue, just looking to maximise my chances of getting a decent mount first try lol

Totally understand. I did about 3 weeks worth of research all over the internet (including the parts your mother warned you about), & most of the cheaper mounts had horror stories about destroyed scopes, stripped threads, bending, not holding zero, etc. The CASM mount was one of a very few that had overly positive reviews, & it's easier to get stuff from Canada than the US, so I went with that, & never regretted it once. Top bit of kit, with excellent fit & finish, & good clear instructions.

I can also recommend getting a TacPro adjustable cheek rest, pretty necessary to get some sort of cheek rest with an M-305...

Yeah the more I look at that scope mount the more I like it, rear peep sight is a plus as I'm looking at some crazy contraption on the front so I can mount a suppressor and retain the front sight post. $160ishNZD isn't too bad, do you recall what the shipping was like? Those cheek rests look good also. Thanks for sharing your findings.

No worries, you should check out some of their other stuff for the M-305 too, including the blackfeather stock, fair makes me dribble...

This was the price in Canada Bucks when I ordered it in mid-2014:
    139.95 CAD
    Shipping and handling: $67.63 CAD
    Total: $207.58 CAD

Hopefully they don't sting you that much, but at least they're made in Canada, so there's no export hassles.

Both of those mounts on trade me are shit and best to be avoided.

Yeah I think that CASM mount is the way to go. Wonder if Youshop would carry it? I know they're funny about gun bits.

You should just be able to get them to ship it directly, Canada doesn't have the same export restrictions as the US. But I'd be interested to know if Youshop is cheaper, so keep us posted...

Youshop will just confiscate your gun bits. Get them to send it direct, at leas that was if they can't you still have your money.

Yeah I wouldn't try Youshop first without asking them about it first, and also you'd have to send it to the USA first which would cause problems with export I imagine. Weight of the rifle isn't too much of an issue for it's intended use, but still duly noted

Go with the CASM or a something US made like ARMS, PRO Mag, Sadlak or Smith Enterprises. Not cheap but if you want reliable sight on am M1 cheap = shit
