Thanks all for the (mostly ) well considered posts. Looks like the advice of @bunji comes up trumps though: I'm heading to @Cooper over the weekend to look at his Remy 783 .308 bush-pig listed for sale on the forum. Even though it overlaps my other rifles, the cost makes it attractive and it covers a lot of bases. Also, a Kiwi-style bush pig rifle to get the collection started can't be that bad a thing, right? Who knows, maybe I grow to love it. Depending on what I think of the scope included with the rifle, I might take serious interest in the Leupold 2-8 @Woody has listed. I've already convinced myself about 85% I "need" the Leupy. In time I'll probably add a DPT Mk2

Now, on to finding a stupid enough "victim" to take me hunting with them. With any luck, I won't irritate them or get lost and actually bag a deer while keeping my undies clean.

308 is extremely versatile, with Roberts 151gr hollow points and trailboss make great subsonic loads and sub-x is available commercially if hand loading isn't your thing
Not to mention the supersonic performance of the 308 which is great out of short barrel bush pig set ups

Nkwe, I hope the rifle appeals to you and gets you out in the bush hunting ASAP.

Nice one. A 308 bushpig is all you need 95% of the time
