Marlin XT22 Heavy barrel .22mag- any good?

On the hunt for a .22mag for a buddy of mine, and have come across the Marlin, at a good price? The stock feels very plasticy, but has a nice trigger, and a heavy stainless barrel. Who has one/had one, and are they any good? Will mainly be used for pest shooting

We have one of that model (MVSR) and it is extremely accurate. It gets used for shooting rabbits and wallabies and all who have used it are impressed with the accuracy.
Just as Mudgrips below I am a converted Marlin fan. Mine gets cleaned religiously after every outing and is my go to rifle.
It is the 3rd Marlin .22 Magnum I have had and they all shot well. I have also got a .17HMR heavy Barrel in an earlier model that is also good.
The only issues I have had with this and 1 of the other rifles were when using Winchester ammunition and the occasional case would split and stick in the chamber.
The simple fix was to change ammo to CCI and this hasn't happened since, accuracy wise the CCI Maxi Mag 40gr HP were actually better in all 3 rifles.
Believe it or not I think the stock on the varmint barrel models feels tinnier because they are muzzle heavy. I know it shouldn't make any difference but the standard barrel models are better balanced.
The other bonus is new ones come with 2 magazines.

    They are brilliant shooters.
Mines in a Boyds stock and suppressed.
Don't think I'll ever part with it

Got a pic of it in the boyd stock? That would make for a nice looking rifle

I like the Nikko Nighteaters - had one on a test rifle a while back - excellent on the rimfire.

Click - I have not pulled this Marlin 982VS of mine down yet. Trigger will I think be Marlin's T900 unit which is adjustable. Have you played with yours - do you know what they adjust down to? I'm thinking they only adjust for American market standards i.e. about 2.5-3lbs up to round 6.

The culprit for the high trigger pull can be swapped with a pen spring.

Mine is an earlier 882ssv with a non adjustable trigger. It was horrible. I sent it to a gunsmith and had a trigger job done and now it's brilliant.
