An SLR can most definitely be bettered, very long and heavy good for open country but not much else. Most fighting today is in urban terrain. Something portable, manoeuvrable and the ability to reach out long is the ticket ie. AR platform.

Yes, that toy gun has it, hate to agree. I'd have put down something light like Sterling SMG with a fairly long reach - but we're limited to talk rifles here.

You guys realize most mass shootings (in the USA) are committed with handguns. And the highest death count for a school mass shooting was with handguns.

There are on average 50 gun homicides in the USA per day, of those 1 is probably with a rifle (including ARs). The rest are all hand gun shootings.

Despite the media hype, the real problem with guns in the USA is handguns, not ARs... it's not even close. And most mass shootings there have less than a .2% impact on overall death by homicide numbers.

Yup, its just that when some one shoots at and kills a bunch in one go its very news worthy especially when its in a public place and even worse when its at a school. and even worse when its a black gun. very hot topic lately.
Moreso than a kid getting at the home defence weapon that is a bit easy to get to and shooting one of the family or crims shooting each other. All bad but not so emotive.
well maybe crims shooting each other not so bad but you know what I mean.

Or just swap SLR for its folding-stock metric original. A few additions and all of the disadvantages mentioned above are negated plus vastly superior penetration of certain obstacles, soft skinned vehicles and personnel wearing body armour.

They've had their time mate, I definitely wouldn't have carried one when I was in the sand.

The platform's continued police and military service suggests otherwise.

Being able to take opponents out through whatever they cover behind, from thick trees to brick walls, that's worth a painful neck and shoulder.

In talking of the choice of gun... they're all worth little without mates who have your back
