The 2 important things with FFP -

    - At low magnification your Reticle will be hard to see, helps heaps to have illumination.

    - At large magnification your reticle magnifies so you will need an extremely fine Reticle , - a tiny gap or a very fine dot.

I quite like my IOR valdada 2.5x10x42. But I was i bought the illuminated model.

bit different from the usual brands but so far had a good run with it. Newer models may have the features you're looking for.

It's mil reticle and from memory half moa clicks. Newer models are Mil/Mil.

I use the mil dot reticle for quick range finding and hold over. other wise I have my ballistic app set up for half moa clicks.

It all depends on the design of the reticle. I have a Burris veracity 2-10x42 ffp, the reticle side branches are thicker externally so that at 2 power you have a decent reticle in your field of view. Particularly useful for low light conditions shots.

As you increase the magnification to 10 the ballistic reticle appears better for those longer range shots and the side branches are thinner.
    Just a clever design.

No, a ffp scope is not necessarily heavier. I have a 2x8x32 ffp ,1" tube which is as light if not lighter than similar sfp scope of the same power range.
With the development of long range shooting and of the "tactical" market, specially post 2000, people had the impression that the bigger and heavier the scope, the better and the more robust it was. The manufacturers have also pushed in that direction .
I got one of the first Longrange leupold scope with 30mm tube and side focus in 2000. A few years latter, the 34mm tubes entered the market. IOR valdada came up with some monstruosity of scopes.35mm tubes and then even 40mm tubes. Zeiss had a 72mm objective scope!
Look at the weight of a vortex razor 2 : 48.5onces =1.375 kg!

Leupold and march seems to get back down in weight compared to what the competition offers, even in ffp.

A month ago was the time to order one.
With the NZ dollar having tanked against the USD it's likely going to be considerably more expensive now that the world has gone crazy.
