    modern air rifles

iv had a few air rifles as a kid and they were ok, but what are the modern ones like, or the... above average ones.
what do you look for or keep away from, which ones have a good name, are there any kinds of accuracy guarantees?

the pcp ones don't interest me.

I just want something to fool around with, yet have good accuracy.

I see some with muzzle brakes, they cant be serious?
    also some called nitro gas...
calibre doesn't worry me as long as pellets are easy to get.

    so what do you know?

I have a Crosman springer (made in China) that has been very good and has had many thousands of rounds through it. Keen to get my hands on a nitro piston one from here soon.

I had a stoeger x20 and it was bloody good, the x50s even better but the price jumps up a lot. Beats this gamo hands down

they look popular on trade me, as in bids not that there seems to be a lot.
gadgetman, that one looks pretty nice too. nitro piston seems like the new thing.
iv got one now that hasn't had much use but the seals seem to had let go. I figured its not worth muching around with and the moden edge would be nice, maybe a scope too.

The odd drop of oil in the hole seems to help them seal better. Causes a little dieseling for a while but works. Other than that normally have to strip them down and replace the seal. I'm going Nitro for the next one.

I thought it was a seal inside it, it cocks ok but no pressure.
do you think the gas nitro is higher maintance. do they have gas cylinders? (the cylinder question might be dumb but they have gas in the name, then they say easier cocking)

Read some air rifle forums, Last time I read a british one they seemed to take them pretty serious and iirc stoeger, gamo and so on were regarded as shit, they reckoned whirelich or something and other brands I have never in a H&F catalog are better

theres a target one on trade me for $4000. that's way too much, something a bit above average which is accurate.

Are you going to shoot domestic cats?

I used to have a crossman extreme g1. I shot almost ninety possums with it over eighteen months, most one shot kills. It was very good, I spent a lot of time sighting it in and plinking as well and hunted with gamo rockets

If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.
