Its well documented that barrel length has bugger all to do with accuracy or velocity in a shotgun most of the powder is burnt within 12 inches. It is point or swingability that is gained with longer barrels.

I found the 18 inch smooth bore (no choke) works well when stalking small dams where the ranges are close (ie me under parapit and birds driven over top - or jumping up 10 ft from me) you actually have some duck left to eat.

The Gun City 22" 870 has a choked barrel. Would be a good compromise if you wanted a little more range and a handier gun. But I just use a .22 if I want more range.
fair enough, 25 yards that will be in its element, im expected to shoot 50 consistantly. and my preferance is rio 4s.

we are doing it in forestry blocks after planting to get rid of the population. and also in orchards for the same reason soon after planting. I am expected to hit every one. If I miss one I hear about it and it

one colonal avo goes for around $35 and a pissed off hare can kill 30 in a night just for fun/ territorialness

    becomes an expensive miss.

application is different thats all, horses for corses . 25yard max is useless to me because the transition to 22 is to slow for a hare running or loping away.
