    Mounting a Sightron S111 6-24x50 to a rem 700

    so..

I have just got a Sightron S111 6-24x50 to mount on a remington 700 7mm rem mag, but im wondering what mounts\rings to use...

Its a rifle i carry all over the place so keen to keep weight under control, so was thinking some talley one piece base\ring combo but unsure if they will be strong enough to hold this heavy scope on my bang stick.. Also anyone know if medium height ones would work as want to keep it as low as possible..

I could go to the rail and ring system but really not sure if i need to !

    thoughts, help ?

Interesting choice of scope if you are wanting to keep weight down. Honestly cast iron rings and a uranium rail would make bugger all difference now. I could cheekily suggest a couple of helium filled balloons but that would just be silly.

Medium rings on a rail will work fine.

Like Marty said, at this stage the weight 'savings' will be unnoticed.

Yip, i know im fighting the weight card with that scope but they just seem such a great option for the price... Take your point that there is not much in it really weight wise, might do some math on the weight figures via the net..

They're definitely good scopes for the money, I've had a few.
What's your intended purpose for the rifle?

This is one mounted on my old ftr rig.

Rings are Burris XTR mediums on savage bases above a very thick 1 inch barrel. As you can see there's heaps of room.

I had a Sightron on my rem 700 for a while. Used medium Talley rings and they fit fine. The only issue I had was the turret would occasionally hit the brass coming out and leave it in the action

They are strong enough and held zero well but if you want to be sure epoxy the bases down once your happy

4-16 magnification would be far better for the ranges your shooting to and don't weigh nearly as much as a 6-24.... I think if you have one round in that mag it may save some weight, no bolt would also help along with a magazine or a trigger and guard but then it may not work as intended lol

Awesome, thanks dirtyface.. That also is a very nice looking rig !

I will try some talley lows and mediums to see which works best for me, will also glue and lap them. Do you have the same ejection issue as mentioned by RWT at all ?
