You’ve chosen a great calibre, I’ve owned two and my first one was my first ‘long range rifle’ and I too traded up from a .270. No regrets it opened up a whole new world and I never looked back.
My personal opinion of long range shooting is that the glass is a more important decision than calibre. It’s where the projectiles hit that seems to matter more than what size/shape it is.
This point is well proven by the .223 thread.
Enjoy the new shooter, you won’t be disappointed.

I would have liked at price of available ammo. Factory stuff starts at $4 for standard 08 based cases and goes up from there in cals and for premium ammo. Gets bloody expensive if you shot a lot. Glad I reload these days
