    MTM Ammo Can Capacity

    I've tried to search the capacity of 30 Cal ammo cans, but most of the answers are loose rounds, and as i don't like to take them out of there boxes until i used them. i haven't found the answer as no one has them in stock

    So, has any one loaded up a 30 or 50cal , preferably a MTM ammo can with .223 in boxes of 100rd and 20rd inside the ammo can. They have just released a 30cal tall can, which would be better than the flat 30 cal can they make

    Same thing with .22

    Slabs of shotgun clay shells don't last long enough to be stored

    As I'm going to order some, once they are in stock, as i have been told to sort out my ammo cupboard.

    prefer 30cal as the lighter the better.

    I have a green plastic mtm case gard holds 50 223 rounds and they have their own hole for each case.

    I've got those for taking out to the range. great little case

    but i'm talking a couple of thousands of .223 rounds that i need to store.

    i like to keep them in the box, so i can keep track of the lot number.

    The will fit either 50 or 100 depending on the size you get
    Your wording just lost me totally.

    My enrish isn't that good, i have spent a lot of time in Aussie, lol

    are we talking 50 or 100 boxes, the little ammo case fit 50 or 100, but I'm talking about the ammo cans that can fit large amounts

    OK i got bored, and i am impatient to wait to see if anyone had worked this out.

    I decided to make up mock ammo cans to the internal size specifications of the MTM ammo cans and filled them with boxes of ammo in different ways to see how much i could fit of .223

    Here goes

    30 Cal tall

    5 boxes of 100rd for a total of 500 rd per ammo can
    18 boxes of 20rd for a total or 360 rd per ammo can

    50 Cal

    6 Boxes of 100rd for a total of 600rd per ammo can
    36 boxes of 20rd for a total of 720rd per ammo can

    30 Cal Flat

    5 boxes of 100rd for a total of 500rd per ammo can
    19 boxes or 20rd for a total of 380rd per ammo can

    i might as well try .22 capacity in the ammo cans

    I keep CCI subsonic, which are in a 100 pack and also the CCI target which is a 500 brick, so ill give that a crack, just incase someone else would like to know if you use this ammo.

    Well here goes for the .22 lr rounds

    30 Cal tall

    14 boxes of CCI sub 100rd for a total of 1400 rd per ammo can
    Weight = 5.796 kg

    3 bricks of CCI Target for a total or 1500 rd per ammo can
    Weight = 5.968 kg

    50 Cal

    30 Boxes of CCI sub 100rd for a total of 3000rd per ammo can (This is tight, may work in a hard plastic ammo can)
    Weight = 11.709 kg

    6 Bricks of CCI Target 500rd for a total of 3000 per ammo can
    Weight = 11.325 kg

    30 Cal Flat

    Could only fit 6 boxes of CCI sub 100rd for a total of 600rd (heaps of space left, but these CCI plastic cases are long)
    3 Bricks of CCI Target 500rd for a total of 1500 per ammo can
    Weight = 5.894 kg

    so if you had heaps of .22LR then 50 Cal is a good choice, cost wise, it would be heavy, maybe i should weight the boxes to work out the weight. (just edited to include weight, i'm really bored if i'm working this out!!!))

    CCI Target Brick = 1756 grams
    CCI Sub sonic 100rd = 364 grams

    MTM 30 Flat Ammo can = 626 grams
    MTM 50 Ammo Can = 789 grams
    MTM 30 Tall Ammo can = (could find on web, ill work of 700gram)

    OK. If we understand you, you are looking for an army ammo box. I have one that will holds 3 bricks of CCI (1500 rounds) in brick form.

    i was talking about the range of MTM ammo cans, similar in size, what size is your army ammo box 30 or 50cal? i'm assuming its 30cal.

    anyhow, i've worked out from my calculations of what cal size ammo can, i can to use to clean up and store my ammo, just got to wait until they arrive

    Looks like the 5x100 option is the way to go when packing in the 30cal cans

    Okay so last weekend had bit time on my hand so friend and I hit 4 stores on Saturday, mainly bit of tyre kicking but happy to spend some hard earned $$ if we spotted something, one thing I kept seeing in each store was these MTM .30cal zombie ammo cans, nothing new about that, but it was the amount of stock out on the floor that raised the eyebrow, 2-3 pallets dotted around one store stacked 5-6 high.

    Did MTM just do a big dump of their zombie cans this side of the world prob cause they can't ship them up north ..?
    With the amount I saw around the place they must have been going cheap, but the retail prices on them too high for me.
    Some places got them for round $26 bucks, I would be happy to pay $9.99 for them
    Grouchy Smurf had it right all along...
