The hydrophobic coating is a major advance for Leupold, this would be the clincher for me if I was looking in that market.

Three years ago when I bought the older VX-6 2-12, with the usual standard turrets, it came with a voucher for a free custom dial even though it wasn't CDS equipped. So, you're saying they no longer provide that or am I getting confused with my dials? Pretty sure I got one of those free coupons with a VX-3 2.5-8 as well even though it was the stock, standard turret model.
So just got the call regarding these from HF Hamilton. 3-18x44 is $2,699 (might have been 2799 cant remember) and the 3-18x50 $2899
pretty pricey, even for the latest product with illuminated and with caps.
absolutely agree.

They are getting nearly as expensive as a nightforce
Is Nightforce better?
The exchange rate is not the best either at the moment :-( I looked at getting a bow and a new rangefinder from the us, and I ll be lucky if I save $200 on the purchase of either toys compared to buying here.
Yes they are heavy but they can handle the knocks. Last week my gun fell off the quad doing 30kph hitting bedrock and landed on the elevation turret, I rechecked zero and it's still bang on. If I was after a Leupold the VX-6 HD 3-18x44 would the one, I like the locking turret and HD gass, illumination is handy as I use that a lot too.
I am fairly hard on my gear so I choose Nightforce reliability first, glass second and weight third.
