Thread: The new lithgow

I just wonder if ya think I bought one just to say I had one.
Funnily enough I own two of the most accurrate 22's with out going to the extreme of the extremely high end.
I have the 455 and the savage accutrigger wood blued which is an amazingly accurrate rifle for the price.
I shot the lithgow this weekend and I reckin that it is showing consistently tighter grouping than my other two.
When lithgow have spent millions on cnc equipment I doubt that they are interested in producing a sub standard product
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you dont own a tikka plastic fantastic ?

Saw one in my local store yesterday. They actually look pretty nice and the stock looks good in person. I don't think I'd buy one because I don't really do heavy barrels but still looks good

200 bucks difference between a CZ and a Lithgow is nothing compared to the money wasted on custom rifles

Just a few of my thoughts having a play with it the other night.

A lot of good, and a bit of work still to be done to the Lithgow in my opinion to get it to a CZ or Anshutz 1416, but you'd expect that with a new entrant. As we know the 1416's you can get for around $1400 or better, the CZ American retails around $850 new but its actually better to buy second hand for around $6-700 and know they're a shooter or not, rather than roll the dice.

At $1200 they need a new trigger (no drop in like the Timney exists as far as I know, as they're so new) or at least a major trigger job required to sort out the trigger travel issue and get the break pressure down - don't know but maybe a change of trigger spring like the CZ to a BIC pen one could work but haven't cracked it open to have a look.

Standout was the length of pull in the stock is really good for Kiwi Blokes sizing, and the balance and heft make it as others have said make it quite suitable for silhouette. Also the lugs and lock time are of significant mention on this action which can make a really good shooter (and has been a real standout for the model 54 actions in the past). Also a really nice bolt throw, with good length for clearance and stroke.

Not sure of the barrel, but crown looked good - hopefully we'll get some feedback once some of the trialists get a couple of thou rounds through and they can talk to whether the groups tighten up and what the extractions are like.

There is a factory released lighter spring for the trigger.

Sorry if you thought I was saying your rifle was bad, I was more replying to the other folks posts on would you spend that much on a 22.
I have no doubt it is a fine rifle, and I'm glad to hear it shoots well. Just I usually tend to research a lot before I buy something, so buying a brand new product would put me off a bit.

Yes I do own a Plastic fantastic Tikka and love it, plastic rifles don't turn me away, just I really like the look of a nice blued wooden rifle also.

You should do proper write up on the rifle and the accuracy you get from it.
A comparison to you CZ 455 would be good too.
I'd certainly be interested in the results.

Had my Lithgow at the range today for Debs to use after the 6mm Saum recoiled too much..

The look on her face when she pulled the trigger with the ASE suppressor on it, "Is that it" "boring not enough recoil"..... can't win aye...

I got her on the 223 AR, the mag loading was "interesting" to say the least.

Funny how the mag loading & shots fired got quicker & quicker, happy camper

I grabbed the Lithgow & shot a group at 100 with the VX1, 3-9x40 on it, couldn't believe the group & no I couldn't duplicate it....



Very happy with it

Thats some nice shooting , I had a look at one last week , & I liked the way it is designed , BUT , opps I will not be buying one anytime soon , as CALL me old fashioned , BUT when you make something out of CM steel , and then you paint IT with silver paint so it looks like SS , you have lost me , blue it or paint it black , thats fine , also put a bloody thread on the muzzle .
The barrel profile , looks a bit like the bull barrel on the Annie 54 repeaters , which is actually more like in between a sporter & target/varmint , so not as thick as say a normal varmint barrel.

Also my 54 Annies have only cost me about $1400 each , and Im happy with that price point , & the Annie triggers are VERY special .

Mines going great and yep you can still get them as a mate of mine just bought one after shooting mine.
