terry, i don't have enough experience with optics for those kind of distances to give you an informed answer.
in general, I'd say shoot/practice until you are beyond the capabilities of your kit, and THEN upgrade...
speak to kiwigreg, brads, lr or some of the other long-range guys on here, but be prepared to spend scary money
