    If you had a bigger rifle I would say 223. But since you don't then 243 308 or 7.62

    .243 or .260
    Both are great calibers and have a good range of bullet weights for anything you will encounter in NZ, especially if you decide to hunt for the elusive etc!

    223 with 53gr Sierra using 26gr BM2. Eye watering accuracy and killer power.Shoot them in the head. Make sure you can it. DPT make a nice can.

    .223 would be a great step up for larger game like the goats you mentioned. If you want to shoot deer as well then maybe consider a .243. If you plan to get a specific deer weapon at a later date then go the .223 for now as you will never regret owning a .223.
