What exactly is it that makes these optilocks so much better than other scope mounting system?

Sakos have an extremely European way of mounting scopes onto their actions, special even....

This is pretty cool if you live in Europe & hunt with/use their rifles/scopes the way they do...step away from that and not so much....

I dunno if they are "so much better" than other scope mounting systems but they do have a self aligning non marring bush system that is pretty bloody good and they fit Sakos.
Certainly miles ahead of a factory Tikka mount(tho lots heavier).

Yeap the plastic liners are awesome, no marks on your expensive scopes, they fit Sakos and they just look right on a Sako too

Optilocks are great mounts. Be awesome if they made a lower version to get the likes of a 2.5-8x36 Leupold down near the barrel. Ended up using Leupold sako rings to get lower. For bigger objective lenses the optilocks are hard to beat.

Burris signature series have plastic inserts too and will sort your savage out.
the inserts also come in offset for longer range uses
