The police just added Balclutha War Memorial Hall to their list of confiscation venues.
Let's let the Clutha District Council know how we feel about that.

The police have added some new venues to the list. I've also updated one that I believe was a typo from earlier. Let's flood them with emails as well. Here are the addresses:

The confiscation event that was scheduled to take place on Sunday the 28th of July at the Ponsonby Rugby Club has been moved to Mount Smart Stadium instead. I can't be sure that they cancelled the booking because of this, but I'd like to think so. You've got to celebrate the small victories I suppose. It's at least a step in the right direction.

What do you hope to achieve through this course of action? If everyone agrees to cancel I imagine at best it will delay a buy back. I have seen nothing to suggest the law is under review?
Not going to one of their little parties and waiting till the bitter end has its merit but also disadvantages. At least at a venue they are valued immediately and you can dispute it and get second opinions as some in the thread on collection experiences have mentioned. With surrender at a station, or dealer if they ever get round to approving anyone they are recorded and valued later somewhere central. You loose the 1:1 and the ability to influence the outcome in your favour.
Most LFAOs affected appear to be heeding COLFOs warning to stay away for now, that is the main factor delaying.
Writing to the venues is not primarily about hoping for cancellation of most events (fat chance!), and "only" one or two cancellations is actually a great achievement.
Reason is, cancellations are figurative "warning shots" that put NZ Police on notice that if people start seeing punters leaving their theft events too unhappy and too screwed over... then undecided future venue hosts will more likely than not "have enough evidence" to justify cancelling bookings.
I have no doubt this letter writing action has helped many out there to get a better deal than NZP / Jacinda's government intended them to get on their early hand-ins. If I'm correct, it's a 100% success.
So...keep writing guys, and stay polite and respectful - you want to win the person over more than you want to win a shouting match, write to them like they are - good guys who want to do a right thing and who need to know what's happening.
I get Error 404 when I try to open that link.
And on looking through the list of email addresses in the first post on this thread I recognised one as being a used car yards address in the town of Balclutha, since the Balclutha War Memorial hall in that town is a collection place ( according to link above) I wonder why a car yard would be involved?
