    Old Codger needs Help

OK so it is no secret that I am as technical as the hole in a doughnut and I am certainly not one to tinker with firearms as I figure the manufacturers probably know what they were doing when they designed and built them. That said, I have a problem and I need some help from you more techno types.

Back in October when the idea of having an ultra long range shoot to honour Toby's contribution to our forum, I was talking to @BRADS about how I would go about getting another 20 minutes of up on my long range rifle scope so that I could have a go at 2000 yards. The solution Brad's suggested was to get some Burris Signature Zee Rings and as if by some miraculous intuition Santa delivered a set to me on Christmas Day.

I have just had a close look at these and I get it that I would put the minus ten insert at the front and the plus ten insert at the back in order to give me the extra 20 minutes of angle but here is the thing. The inserts are marked -10 and +10 but the way I have it figured the insert itself must be minutely tapered on both the upper and lower sections so how do you know which way around to face them when there are four possible combinations to each pair of inserts?. If there is a taper (my eyes are to old to detect this if there is) and I get it the wrong way around then it will not yield the result I am after.

Any words of wisdom around this need to be mono syllabic so that I will understand. Help!

Lay them flat and draw a circle in one then turn it over, it should be smaller or larger, need a fine pencil or hold them together you should feel a taper

I don't think there is a taper, I did exactly the same thing with mine and never noticed a problem. They are curved on the outside from memory and will rotate slightly in the rings.

@Rushy, you want to tilt the front end of the scope down to gain elevation.

To do this, place the -10 at the bottom front, and +10 at the top front. If you have a second set, you can gain further elevation by doing the opposite at the back, +10 at the bottom back, and -10 at the top back.

Give me a call if you want to talk thru the process.

The Burris rings are awesome, I use them on all my rifles, to adjust both elevation and windage...

As tothedirection, the insert pairs have a small cutout on one side, just align those.

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

Good on ya guys and thanks a bunch. I wonder why they don't just whack instructions in with the rings. Will give it a go in a couple of days.

OK guys I have swapped out the old rings on my long range rifle for the Zee rings and according to the Burris website I should have gained another 21 MOA of up. I have also noticed that the rings are slightly lower than the previous set so have made an adjustment for that on my ballistics calculator. Now all I need to do is get out in some fine weather and find / reset zero.
