Buying from the US is not a big issue ,if you have any warranty issues you just deal direct with the manufactuer.
However ,for me,a scope for a 22 and one for a centrefire are two different animals. There can be parrelex/magnafication/reticles/use(bush/tops etc) etc issues and the max for a 22 is about 100 mtrs ,with a centrefire way out there.

Agreed. Buy something in the $150-300 mark for the rimfire. The Mueller that kscott put up a link to are very good value. You don't need utra flash glass as for the ranges you shoot you can turn night into day with a basic torch attached. Swapping the same scope between rifles will lose it's appeal really fast.

Good idea thinking ahead, but $1000 will be way over kill for a 22 and you will probably find you will just need to buy one for your 22 once you take this one off, so I wouldn't bother tbh.

A Burris like I said would suit well, as would a Nikon Bickmaster or Prostaff.
I've never tried a Mueller scope so can't recommend one, but other seem to get good results from theirs.
I prefer a lighter scope on most rifles without too many features, hence why I am quite biased towards the Burris.

If you're thinking of buying ANY optics out of US that's "tactical" , has dial up or ballistic recticle then you're not going to have much luck. Avoid Optics Planet like the plague. I tried to buy several things off them this year and the pissing around was unbelievable & in the end they refused to supply. Even though I had a mate in US whose address I could use for delivery. So don't give them a second look. You'd think that good ol NZ was a hot bed of terrorism
If you're after a simple scope for 22 then you could get ex USA - try Natchez or Sinclairs. NOT Optics Planet !
But for these sort of scopes just keep you on this site or TradeMe - plenty of good deals.

    Optics - buying from US

I've brought thousands of dollars worth of scopes out of the US. Worst issue I've had has been with a Chinese repo of a WW2 scope.
No issues getting anything you want. It's called shopping around

For paper target shooting at 100m what power would be enough. I learned a scope with big maximum power like 16 or more require really really good glass hence they won't be cheap.

I am looking at a scope with lots of internal adj range to get the 22lr bullet to reach 100m target lol. I tried once last month but failed to do it all the group are at the bottom of the paper that is the maximum of elevation

I had a Bushnell AR Optics 7x32 with BDC arrive from Optics Planet last week. I had no problems in my dealings with them but they do make life difficult for you if paying with a non-US credit card and attempting to deliver to a US address.

Something is wrong with your set up. An ordinary budget scope should get you there with ease. Get something with mildots and use one of the lower marks as your zero for distant shots. I'm getting well over 100m with subs using a Mueller APT that cost me $300 new.

3 scopes now from OpticsPlanet. No issues ever.

Its a .22. Even as a "long term keeper" scope, anything more than $300 is kinda pointless.
Personal best picks for a .22 scope - Nikon ProStaff Rimfire 3-9x40 or Vortex Diamondback Rimfire 2-7x35.
The Vortex is an AMAZING spotlighting scope. You barely need a light and you can see a possum as if it was daylight 50meters away.

My Marlin .22 wears a Mueller Tac II 3-9x42. I bought it off Digit a few years ago as an AR scope. It is an excellent LR .22 scope, no problem shooting out to 200m. Sadly I don't think they are made anymore. Redfield has just put out a 3-9 with an MOA hash reticle and MOA turrets. Would probably be a good .22 optic. They also do another with turrets and a mil dot reticle I think for around $US 200

I have my 22's zeroed for 75m and have no trouble reaching rabbits further out without any aid from a rail.

I have had good dealings with optics Planet so far , I would just order what you want , trust me , they will tell you IF they cannot supply .
If the item is really listed as a ITAR , odds are they will not send it to you .

    Later Chris
