If you can keep within close range of internet prices without the hassle your on a winner.
If not your basically targeting the same market as HF IE, my super intelligent, highly paid, dum as all shit eldest sister who walked in there with the whole family of five and said" We are walking the Able Tasman and need everything" Fuck knows what that cost but she buys 4 year olds Nike shoes etc

Yeah she sounds like their target demographic. What shits me about the Hamilton store is no-one knows anything about anything that isn't on the shelf, and even asking about the stuff on the shelf makes you feel like a grave inconvenience.

Sounds bad in Nelson with lots personal stuff creeping in. Best get Woolley [Napier h&f] to buy it to keep you fellas happy.Went in there about 3 years ago on way to Westport and cringed when overheard a staff member telling garbage to Joe Public about reloading.Small dwarf bloke who did fishing sales was friendly enuff.

I sometimes get the impression HnF staff wish I was dead, unless I'm gravely mistaken

Go into business with @Spanners and have a nzhuntingandshooting online shop as part of the forum, a seperate buy section where you can purchase projectiles, brass, powder etc directly. And when it comes time for stock to be purchased do a mass order of what people are actually waiting on so that items aren't sitting around waiting to be sold. He already has his katipo shooting supplies if thats still going so could be intergrated?

Easy in concept but maybe not in practice.

It's a shame all the great small independents are getting slowly absorbed by corporate juggernauts. Not just with the hunting/fishing/outdoors scene either. I used to spend a lot of money at Alp Sports on Hardy Street back in the day.
That HF is like a try hard Cabela's these days.
I was gifted a $100 voucher and was genuinely surprised how hard it was to find something worth putting it towards and settled on a selection of small items. It was amusing though, overhearing some of the sales pitches. I also saw a no name Chinese torch for sale @ $70 which could be had online & delivered for $7USD at the time.

Identical experience in the Napier shop trying to use my voucher up.
A lot of the stuff is lowest common denominator.. Maybe I'm too picky?

His point of difference could-would probably be stocking dies-powders etc and actually knowing something about what he is selling
