Ranger Carbon tensioned barrel for Ruger 10/22

I am looking to put an aftermarket barrel on my 10/22, was looking at Green Mountain, Kidd, and Volquartsen, but I want it threaded for a moderator, and the US barrels are either not threaded, or use a different thread so my moderator wont fit. Then saw an add for a NZ made Ranger carbon tensioned barrel, with integrated moderator. They claim this barrel is as accurate as an aftermarket bull barrel. Does any one know who the barrel is made by, and has anyone had first hand experience with this barrel good or bad ?

Had first hand experience with one of these barrels. The old sporter barrel with 30,000 rounds through it shot a lot better than the Ranger barrel that replaced it.
The ranger barrel was so badly machined the extractor was not able to extract a round. It went back for further machining, and came back much the same.
Only upside I saw for the barrel was the weight saving.
Definitelly not in the same class as any of the other bull barrels on the market.

Mate had one, had extraction issues too. Ended up spending big money on the bolt, guess the barrel may have been the issue after all??

    True-flite do 10/22 barrels.
Hardy do carbon wrapped barrels with Kiwi Composites.

Get KIDD ultra light from Darin. it is the most accurate lightweight barrel you can get in NZ right now.

OR you can wait till next year when AITAR reform kicks in, get good stuff from USA for cheap.

I've got a carbon tension sleeve barrel on my 10/22. Original barrel machined down skinny with a monocore suppressor screwed on the end. It has a piece of carbon fibre tube over the lot. Bunny Buster made it for me. Very accurate. I run a Kidd spring kit which make it cycle well with subs.

He was in Nelson, but I'm pretty sure he shut up shop. So my info won't be current. I have pointed out though that it can be done on the original barrel with reasonable success.

    Seconded.
I got the 16.5 ultra light from USAGuns - NZ importer for KIDD.
Took it to a precision machine shop, had barrel threaded with large thread size and suppressor rethreaded to suit.
    Scary accurate, super quiet, reliable!

I was looking at a kidd barrel, but have heard that the aftermarket match barrels are finiky with some ammo, and also may have feeding & extraction problems. Any issues with your Kidd barrel on this ?

    You’re massively overthinking this. It’s just a .22

Don’t buy junk (anything GC), have installed by someone that knows what they are doing. Live happily ever after.

I have 2 Kidd rifles both with bull barrels, never had any issues with extraction (then again, they use KIDD bolt and extractor). The only problem I have on regular basis is that when using subs, you need to clean the chamber after every 150~200 rounds to remove the carbon/lead/wax residue, or else the rounds will start not getting pushed all the way in, causing the firing pin not igniting the rounds. This is to do with the chamber being very tight. But as long as you make sure you clean it properly and regularly the issue does not happen.

I do not use a big variety of ammo so I do not have any otherwise bad experience with different ammo.

On my light rifle I use Whistlepig barrel, as accurate as KIDD (as far as I can tell) and cheaper, but you cannot import them anymore.

Hi Ultimitsu, have ordered a Kidd bull barrel, and Kidd single stage trigger, already has the kidd bolt. What ammo have you found to be most accurate in your rifle ?
