If you think the one on TM is real, do I have a deal for you....

Vari-x III were manufactured from the 90's through to early 2000's, and did not have consistent branding. I had 2 at one point in the past, and both had different labeling on the boxes. I cannot recall the differences, but they were definitely not the same. Both came from reputable gun stores well before knockoff Chinese scopes were a thing.
I also googled out of interest....here's one for sale elsewhere https://classifieds.ksl.com/listing/74902667 with better photos, showing the engraved gold ring etc.

    Are you the seller?
Or is the seller a mate?

Look again. If you think that is genuine, Elvis is alive.

No idea who the seller is, nor do I really care.
Please point out what's wrong, so everyone can tell a fake. Did you have a look at the one in the link I attached? Is that also a fake.

I think it's real, packaging varied a lot with the times. BUT I could be wrong.

    Jesus wept.

Since when did Leupold EVER have a 'Vari-Xiii 2.5x8' scope.

    Go buy it then.

From a new buyer with no history.

I sold my genuine Vari-X iii 3.5-10x40 LRT M3 for $485 2 months back to another forum member.

But feel free to pay $600 for a Chinese counterfeit on the yellow site, or play dangerously and hit the $800 buy now.

    I dare you.

    They did make a vari-x-III 2.5-8x36
    IIRC

    That's kind of my point.
Shows how poor the printing is on the faux box.

If you are meaning the "x 36" missing, leupold actually did that on some small objective scope boxes. I think the marking on the gold ring on the objective also just had 2.5-8 or 1.5 -5

    Correct. 2.5-8 or 1.5-5.
But not 2.5x8, as per this one and the other link posted.

I cant recall that sort of detail but I wouldn't be surprised if they used X back then some times. Leupold have changed all sorts of things over the years.
A quick search comes up with some examples.

Why do you have to use the word 'trolling'? Trolling is when someone deliberately tries to upset or antagonize others, I'm sure dogmatrix is not doing that...at the most, he is just incorrect in his assessment ... which is human.

The TM seller posting the serial number under the scope would solve many concerns.

Continuing to post in light of being shown to be wrong a lot of posts back, is surely done to antagonise or upset.
It's one thing to be a subject matter expert and give expert advice (which is highly commended), but to shit on someones auction because you have a feeling something is not right, is not cool.
I had someone report a couple of my Atlas bipod auctions as fake, and they got pulled numerous times to the point of TM threatening to suspend my account. All while the clear knockoffs were left on TM to sell.

And yes this TM seller in question is not the best. Poor photo, no serial etc
