    I dont but i can get one at a good price so thought it might be worth rechambering since im one of those guys that likes the proven old school cals

    Even if the barrel was cut back and then rechambered for 7x57 the magazine will be to short to accept the cartridges. Why you would even bother when the ballistic performance difference between the cartridges is so small, is beyond me! Both are good rounds, well suited to NZ hunting.

    Go 284 if you can. To the best of my knowledge it will out perform the 7x57. 19" bbl pushing a 150sgk @ 2770 is pretty good performance. Can push the 160s-168s with a bit of oomph too

    7mm08 is a proven old school cal now , The new kid on the block is a 6.5 wiz bang something

    And tomorrow the 6.5 wizz bang glockenspiel will be replaced by something else, hes on the right track going for a cartridge thats been delivering the goods for 125 years.

    Funny how you can be a man with a 260 or a 308. Half a mm or so either way and you are a latte drinker. Nothing wrong with any of the 08 cartridges.

    I had Mitch maxbury ream a tikka from 7mm08 to 280

    Due to case taper he has set the barrel back a bit

    Went well and worked. Perfectly

    7mm08 just a 308 with a better BC

    Yep... I had a T3 I did the same reaming it out to a .280 Rem and then later I came across the .284 and never looked back.

    also have a Kimber 7mm-08 in the safe but the .284 is a fine killer!
