So heres my 223 supressor 2500 rounds through it about 400 with an ar which isnt recommended. It also spent a week sitting on a 22-250 and did 50 rounds but needed a few more baffles for that. The pitting developed quite quickly round the centre hole while on the ar but never seemed to get any worse.
that looks about like my 7mm one did after 400ish rounds,I put a stainless one in and problem solved - another 1k through it and you can hardly tell

My 243 running DPT with hundreds of rounds through it looks like tetawa,s can. Mine has been shortened too 20 inches but all are my reloads. I now run it on my AR as well but will purchase a SS blast baffle soon.
well I know from experience that a short barrel 243 spits one hell of a jet of flame. that's got to eat out what ever it hits.
having said that others above have short barrel 243's with no issue.
side question, why did you go 243 for short barrel rifle?
I shoot a couple of 243's but for a short barrel rifle based on the 308 family a larger bore would be more efficient. (yes trajectory and recoil would be worse than the 243).

Pretty much so the whole family can shoot it and because I already have .30 cals. Didn't want to go .223 and the barrel length was for ease of carry for the smaller ones.
Max shots will be 200 odd on sika and fallow.
Cheer's Preacher, Thats a perfectly good reason.
One of my 243's ended up at <18" due to crown damage and an internal rust pit. It had shot well for years then suddenly the best i could get was 4" groups so got it cut back. This was before i discovered suppressors. It was awful, loud, big flash, and kicked badly. Ended up finding a gunsmith with an old (but unused) factory 22" barrel to suit.
For family use the 243 makes a lot of sense, Particularly if you don't reload. Recently a mate tried starting his son on the 7M08 with factory reduced loads. (Did not go well)
