Rebarrel and restock or sell and buy new

    Hi all,
I have a Sako A7 chambered in 270. Bought just over a year ago. It has a full over barrel Greystone suppressor (ie all the way back to the receiver). While it does make for a good package, I have been thinking of rebarreling and possible change in chambering. If I do this I'd need to get a new stock too, due to the amount of material taken out of the stock for the suppressor.
So my question is, would it be best to take that route or sell and buy a different gun? Without suppressor getting 1/2", 5 shot groups or better at 100m, but with suppressor it heats up too much, effecting the accuracy.
    Any help would be appreciated

Yes hunting rifle, but this suppressor weighs about twice that of a DPT, so ideally would be trying to get lighter overall. Suppression is very minimal unfortunately

Just so we understand your overall goal, what are you wanting to do exactly?

Cant understand exactly what you're trying to achieve. Seems like you're throwing the whole thing out cos the suppressor is getting hot, which seems a bit odd.
You'll only ever get one, two, maybe even three shots at an animal, so I wouldnt worry about the heat.
    ps Its not a gun,its a rifle

Wanting a lighter hunting rifle, that I can still use for occasional goat mob shooting and some range shooting.

If you are happy shooting it bare, then pick up a used or aftermarket stock

before I sold my a7 270 I just shot it un suppressed with good ear plugs never an issue, if your that worried about the weight sell it and start again, but to be honest I think your over complicating it 1/2 inch at 100 yards is perfectly good enough, if you just want a rifle to bomb up goats it'd be cheaper to buy a cheap 243 or 223 than to explore re barrel and re stock options with the bonus of buying another toy and really how many goats do you want to shoot in a sitting ?
I wouldn't be over concerned about the weight of the over barrel I changed from a light un suppressed a7 to a older heavier finnbear and barely notice the difference, I mean really how much weight are you going to shave off by going DPT instead of over barrel, is it really worth the cost ?

Not throwing the whole thing out either, just wanting advice on how I can make the most of my rifle. 4-5 shots and the suppressor is too hot to touch, and POI shift opens up with each shot, which is why is stated the 5 should group without the suppressor. Groups open to about 5". Sorry if I wasn't clear in original post

Drop by a gunsmith with it and get a price for rebarrelling and restocking then you have half the info you need

Sakos are good and if you are happy with 270 then how about looking at a carbon fibre stock and a DPT can?

If you want light then that will be light

For the groups to open up that much and that quickly, I'd be thinking there is significant stress in the assembled barrel/can unit. If it were a std can, I'd be suggesting opening up the rear bushing to give more clearance but that doesn't sound to apply here.

I assume you've ruled out the influence of heat mirage off the barrel affecting the sighting.

I have multiple opportunities to bomb large mobs for farmers, normally at distances 300m+. I think if I were to get a different stock, as mentioned, it might tie me over till I've got funds for another toy (or wait for a cheap barrel to come up).

Yes I've ruled out heat mirage, and have confirmed it is still free floated with suppressor on, I'm assuming and agreeing that the barrel may be under some stress (muzzle thread to where it meets the receiver possibly?), Which most likely will be affecting barrel harmonics?

Thank you all for your advice, I may have been looking too much into it and worrying for nothing!

shouldn't be any harm in shooting it with the stock you've got now should there is the barrel ported can you just shoot it without the suppressor

Try a different suppressor, either DPT or ASE Utra.
I have a ASE and it has excellent sound suppression and is only 100mm long.

Failing that just sell the rifle and buy another.
You will never get your money back if you start "customizing" your rifle, you may get lucky and get a good used barrel and stock and maybe break even, but not very likely.
Selling your rifle and buying another used one is usually your best bet.
