Thread: Rebarrel and restock or sell and buy new

Thank you all for your advice and input, gives me something to think about while I'm at home recovering from ankle surgery! I always appreciate all the responses I get, especially from people that have a lot better understanding and information than I have at this point. Hopefully one day I can pass on my knowledge to others in need.

This is like a remedial reading thread.

You basically have an action. I fully understand your situation. With the suppressor on you can't fire shot strings. Normal supressors get hot. They don't get hot all the way back to the action and they don't stress the bedding due to heating/cooling.

1/2" from the bare rifle is good but you will get that from a new version. Sell it as what it is and start again is option A. See what you will get for one second hand, then look at what you have to spend to get back to where you were, but with a normal barrel and stock and a DPT can. Probably about $800-$1000

A new barrel will cost you that threaded and fitted. Then there is the stock. Plus the suppressor. Lets say $1800 to customize, using your existing action, but you have a custom rifle which is fun.

If money is tight shoot it bare. I understand where you are coming from it looks like a pain. Good gear but not versatile enough for you. You don't really want to shoot a rifle that looks half dismantled for longer than you have to.

Looking at that again it would put the shits up me with all that meat taken out of the shank and the machining done to it to fit O-rings etc right where all the explody stuff happens

Thanks @Tussock , that is exactly what I was trying to ask/figure out. Unfortunately money is tight at the moment, haven't been able to work full time since October due to slipped disc and the ankle surgery 2 weeks ago. I think what I'll do for now is shoot it without the suppressor, sell the rifle and start again once I have the funds.
@Ryan_Songhurst that's what I get for jumping on a good deal but not doing my research! One of the ways to learn from my mistakes!

I quite enjoy the 270, but haven't handled many other calibres unfortunately. I might look at a different calibre when I buy new or even possibly stay with the 270. Unfortunately I don't reload, one day eventually

If you can afford to, keep it for those days when you just want a single deer and are unlikely to fire more than 3 shots.

Get a 223 or 243 for the other stuff as per @dannyb's advice.

Have you got in touch with stu to see what he has to say about it? I haven't had any work from him in a number of years but found him good to deal with when I did. He was really pedantic and seemed to enjoy problem solving so might be worth running it past him. If it was a fixable issue you would be back in the space of a very handy, well balanced rifle. It's not only the weight of the suppressor to consider but also where the weight is distributed. The full barrel concept in this regard is a good one, it has its "negatives" as everything does. I would first be getting in touch with stu and seeing what he has to say. If no progress can be made then I'd sell and make a super pig. Since doing mine the other rifles dont find themselves in the field often. It's too versatile

hiya i recon would be cheaper to sell it and buy a new one, never liked the idea of a full barrel suppressor cheers
