    Refinishing a Boyds stock

I have just completed a full pillar bedding job on a Boyds SS Evolution stock for my CZ455 17HMR and took the opportunity to rework the shape of the pistol grip to better fit my hand (found the original to be a bit tight in the grip opening, and quite different to the same stock style on my 10/22). I now have a stock with portions of original clear coat finish and portions with freshy sanded wood.
I plan to completely re-finish the stock. I find the original factory finish is fine, but a bit slippery in the wet.

Any recommendations on a good hardwearing finish for these laminated stocks?

Spray the stock with water, fine mist is best. This gets the wood fibers to stand up. Let it dry, then sand with fine grit - 400.

If you are going to rub it with steel wool, get the synthetic stuff (3M makes good stuff). Metal steel wood embeds in the wood and causes rust issues down the line.

Assuming you are using something like Tru Oil, start with several thinned down / diluted coats, and gradually increase the oil content.

For laminated stocks, I always use a spray can of 1K automotive high gloss clearcoat.
    For walnut, I use a Linseed/Polyurathane mix like Tru-oil.

Cheers for that. I bought a can of 1K on the way home tonight. Never heard of it before so will be interesting to see how it goes.
