Always had a hankering for one in 350Rem magnum. Probably not the best platform for that but a
great looking piece of kit.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Had a 222 back in the 80's and used it for most of my hunting back then. Mine didn't have the rib on it. It was great for spotlighting as it was short and easy to use in confined spaces, shot my best red stag with it in 1980. It was a great rifle to cart around on the many pack in trips we did back then being short and not weighting in at to much.
I don't know if I would change the caliber to 223 as I found the 222 did an excellent job for everything I hunted at the time. It would be nice to get another one in good condition some time.
I have a Mohawk .222 with a pitted barrel, still shoots ok, but will replace in the future. I’ll probably send it to truflite, and they will profile a new stainless barrel to match original. Some gunsmiths don’t profile barrels.

Ive got one in 243 Id like another barrel for. Dont see them around much and makes me wonder how many members have one sitting in the back of the safe...
The problem is the plastic trigger guard which warps.
If someone could make a few metal ones the old guns might come out of their cupboards.
I recall the wood was pretty soft and white too. Be interesting to see how theyve fared after 50 years.
The wedge shaped forend was great.
The blast from the .222 deafening …
There are non plastic trigger guard replacements available in the USA, most probably not available in nz though..... https://heritage-arms.com/product/trigger-guard/....
Hugh Bradley of Gun makers nz in Alexandra ,, https://www.gunmakersnz.com/ Pretty certain Hugh does chrome moly barrels and he will profile to your original barrel...
yes what baghera says the magazine floor plate can warp but great little rifle and most shot well not as accurate as the 788 from same era but yeah nice
Glacier rifle company would probably be able to inlett one of their carbon stocks for it if you want something lighter. Any Remington 700 take off barrel will screw on ( it will just need to be headspaced correct).
Brownells use to sell a metal bottom plate to replace the plastic one.
