A mate has a338-06ai built on a tikka long action.
Usually for that type of cartridge you don’t shoot heavier than 250 gr, actually more your 180 to 230 grain max.
So you don’t necessarily need the long length available in a rem action to seat your projectiles far. Hence why the tikka mag is long enough.
Kelton, Longrun and makka like this.

Yes, the heavier ones are deigned for the win mag, lapua and friends.
I'd go for the 200gr hot cor or 225gr btsp

Did he use a 338-06ai reamer or just hit it with a 30-06ai reamer to improve it?

    Interesting,
I thought it would be an interesting wild cat, pushing a 338-06 ai reamer into a 338 tube just enough to fit a 318 westley richard cartridge. Fireform from there on and reload with normal 338 projectiles.
Just use a 338-06 ai set of dies shortened at the base to reload to the correct length. Yes I know, it would a useless wildcat….

interesting and as you said, a bit useless unless you were trying to squeeze it into something where cartridge length might be an issue like maybe an old enfield?
