Does the balance point REALLY matter in 99% guns designed to shoot more than 100m?
Those shots would rarely be offhand and would be rested or bipod
Its carry that only matters, and if you have built something that is so front heavy, that it carries badly then its balance point for shooting means nothing as its built for a rest.
One thing you DONT see here in NZ very often is position of the stock sling swivel being moved.
    Makes a HUGE difference

I can take the 'most perfect' balanced rifle and it would be fucked straight away due to my positioning of scope.
I have a 'giraffe' neck and typically scopes are 2" further forward from someone that doesnt crawl down the stock

The difference in weight in question between LA and SA in under 3.5oz, and given the length difference the weight shift is approx less than 1/2" further forward
Push you flutes 1/4" further forwards and back and take a few of the unused rail slots off in the mill and that weight is gone

Here you go, a few real world rifles that get used. Long , short and micro actions just to compare.

In the real world my hand isnt as wide as a beer bottle when im carrying said gun.

Tikka weighs in at 3.3, sako at 2.88, CZ around there. But different balance points for each, might be make and quality of gun. Interestin thread this as i have always been interested in the differences but after reading.. not much of a problem. But at the end of a day if you are worried about a rifle that weighs a little too much.. lord help you when you shoot a deer and try to carry that however many kilo of venison out!

balance point..... well put some lead in the stock and it will have it back further....but it wont be light

It does also matter more for long/short if your rifle is light as when you get down under 7lb all up, the barrel sticking forward the more will unbalanced it more.... Not an issue long/short if the rifle isn't on the super light end of things

Going light does get interesting try to keep the balance and do everything you want (dial scope, barrel length to get enough velocity etc)
