    Remington .300wsm into what?

    Hi Guys
I have got an idea to make my .300wsm into a permanent long range rifle, im sticking to the Weaver tactical scope but want to get it re barreled and i am open to ideas on cal, i have had a 7mm/.300wsm suggested which sounds good but want some other ideas to think about to.

Anyone got some ideas for me.

    Abe, you want a job?
    Cheers
    Mal

The 7mm option is probably most sensible, but you could take it a step further and go 6.5-300wsm.

Must add that 800m would be top limit for me on reds with this scope and my ability, best shot so far is a sheep at 600m.
Money isnt a big thing for the job to be done either.

Leave it as it is... The $$ involved to gain 2.763" less drop at 962.54yds isn't worth the hassle
To make any real gains you're looking at a bigger case length - RUM

Is the barrel shot out? 300 wsm should be good to 800m

Nothing wrong with the standard Remington barrels & actions I have re-chambered so far.

The biggest handicap with the WSM is it is in a short action, it needs to be in a longer action to make it get up & go.

For the price of rebarreling Maybe trade the wsm for a 300rum or get a 300mag or 7remmag and KG rechamber to a 7-375 or 30-375. Im sure Abe also has some good chamberings (is that a word)?

Would be sticking to the 300 if I was you

It will get to 800 with out to many problems, the 7mm variant, whilst it is slightly better on paper, really its f all difference in real world, just a couple less clicks of the scope and a shit load more time and money involved.

If the barrel doesnt shoot good enough for long range work then I would sell it and buy a long action to build off, or better yet just buy a tikka 7mmrem mag

New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

    Whats not to like
    3000+ rounds
    mild recoil
    cool round
will do all you want it to easy

makes use of short action easy with no need to go to long actions so much wasted space or simply to lazy to work the short action
Bryan and camo wsm like this.

I know I would rather shoot a Red at 800m with a 300 Wsm over a 6.5 Saum any day

That said for shooting Reds etc at that distance a 338 would be a more sensible option

With 68gr of RL17 behind a 165gr pill, my 300wsm was getting 3250fps out the barre as measured with a magnetospeedl. I would imagine 168 or 178 Amaxs would be knocking animals over at that distance easily enough.

    Hmmm
6.5 with 130vld at 3250 has 1150lbs hitting power, more then enough

How much over kill do you need? That will be a light gun, needing no brake or suppressor, that won't beat you up and be half the price of a 338 to run
