    Remington 700 Action Lengths

I'm aware of Remington 700 Actions in short (perhaps up to .308 cartridge) and long, however, is there an extra long action, for the Ultra Mags etc?
I have a .300 Win Mag, that I wish to re-barrel, and I'm thing of getting it chambered for the .300 RUM, on the strength of it! Is the long action on my Remington 700 'long' enough, or do Remington make a longer action for their Ultra mags?
    Thanks

Only 2 lengths, short and long. For the 300 rum you will need to get a gunsmith to lengthen the action box, if you want to sit the projectiles right out. with my 7RUM I left the magbox the std length and single fed with the 180gr bergers.

So you've obviously converted a 7mm Rem Mag to 7mm RUM?
I know, as the rifle is, I cannot get the ogive of the 208gr A MAX bullets out far enough to touch the lands, because of the magazine box restriction, even in the .300 Win Mag configuration!

    Thanks.

So the 700 .338 Lapua, is a long action exclusive to it's own?

my 338 edge was originally a 7mm rem mag, ive had the magazine lengthened, can now fit 2 in the mag, the over all length of a loaded round is 101mm - this uses the 300rum case necked up. so you wont have issue as long as you get the mag box milled and a longer magazine

Yyyks, this unnerves me, Wikipedia quote:

"The Remington 700 comes in a large number of variants, with different stocks, barrel configurations, metal finishes and calibers.

In addition there are three lengths of action (not including the Model Seven's lightweight action, which is even shorter than the 'standard' short action). There is the short action for cartridges up to 2.800 in (71.12 mm) in overall length like the .308 Winchester cartridge family, the standard action for cartridges up to 3.340 in (84.84 mm) in overall length like the .30-06 Springfield and .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge families and the long action for magnum calibers exceeding 3.340 in (84.84 mm) in overall length like the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum and .375 Holland & Holland cartridge families.[7] The symmetrical two-lug bolt body has a .695 in (17.65 mm) diameter."

I know a fellow who bought a Remington Sendero in .300 RUM, so I guess there's only one way to be sure!

Actually the model 7 isnt really shorter. The rear action bridge is shorter but the magazine box is the same length as the rem short action.

Whoever wrote the Wikipedia article doesn't know shit. There are only 2 lengths. The short action and long action.

Having a middle name like 'F&@%-UP', and therefore needing to scrutineer my fellow forum members, I put it directly to Remington, and they replied:

"The 700 long action length is the same for either of those calibers. We only produce two lengths of actions. Short and long.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Remington Customer Services"

(The 'calibers', they're referring to are the .300 Winchester Magnum and the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum!)
So, those of you who claimed as much, 10 out of 10 for you.
    Thanks for your helpful advice
