    Remington 788

So I have been given a 788 model remington in 308.
It turned up yesterday and although it's not mint it's in bloody good condition with a few light marks on the stock and metalwork and blueing very good.

My question is I have a DPT 30 cal suppressor in my cupboard ready to go but am I doing the right thing as the front sight will need removing for threading ( over barrel )

I know it's not a true classic by any means but they are hard to come by and one in this condition is uncommon.

Me personally , I would rather have the rifle the way I enjoy shooting it, if you want it Suppressed , get it threaded, 788/s are good rifles may aswell make use of it

I had this dilemma with a Sako A1, so I sold it and got a 788 that I subsequently chopped and enjoy.
They are heavy little suckers though!

Mine was already shortened to 17" with no front sight when I bought it so was easy decision to thread it.
    Ya can't park there mate.

Cheers guys that's really what I wanted to know. Just didn't want to commit a heinous crime on the rifle if it was special or collectible some how.
Looks like a good old cannon for the deer.

Mainly more open country in and around Otago, shots from 70 mtrs to maybe 300 at the max. Not really sure what to use as I have never had a 308 before.

I’ve seen worse guns threaded mate like very rare collectors items
If you want to suppress it go for it
One thing you could do my mate had it done with his marlin 44mag
He had it threaded which meant cutting the front sight off
But he had the gunsmith make a blind fitting thread cap out of the Portion of the barrel with the front sight still attached and index the thread so the sight screws on to top dead centre so can screw them back on or even locktight them on if needed
When the thread cap is in place you wouldn’t know it had been touched
