Maybe if you had a 1:8" 22-250 it might come close. However pushing a 105gr over 3000fps packs a lot more punch than a 22-250.
Mine is 18.5" and is doing 2880 fps with the 105s. Shot well over 100 deer since I purchased it last year and no shortage of them under 500 yards. Wouldn't catch me doing that with a 55gr projectile.

Beauty of the 243 is you can get projectiles from 58gr to 115gr depending on your twist rate.
Not hard to down load softer projectiles for minimum recoil. Not that you would need to in reality.

When I emailed Beretta they said they were hoping to see the Tikka 1:8" this year. If you can't wait then could rebarrel a rifle or buy a Ruger American which are 1:9"

He doesn't know when he can make any more of those, but he has 105gr.

Young fella will love whatever you do, and having confidence in the setup is 95% of the equation.

It’s a fun process, and you will get to the stage that’s it’s a privilege if they let you shoot an animal.

PS if I can remember correctly, did you buy him a wood stainless 7-08 when he was one

    How Olds your boy?
My young fella age 8 is loving the 6arc. Shot a big body spiker in the weekend. Was a hell of a carry out. Cant wait for him to be the pack hoarse!
The recoil is slightly more than a 223.

Good call on the 243. If it was me I wouldn’t worry about a carbon stock till later on. Your call of course but I bet he’d be happy just to have a new tikka!

Fast twist barrel is a good call but I reckon a young fella out to 300 yards is plenty so any good 85-100 grain bullet should do the biz.

My first rifle was a 243 at 16 years old and 200 yards was a long shot. You have probably schooled him up on longer range shooting I’m guessing.

    Fantastic calibre for nz.

Nathan - pop down to Custom Guns, Greg has the new Howa in stock and at 4 pounds 7 ounces on Greg’s scale they are impressively light and should fit your lad pretty well
With a suppressor and light scope will be a tidy unit
