I stand by my post. If the smith does not advise the client that there is a possibility of damage in effecting such an extraction, the cost of repair rests with the smith. It should not be assumed that the client knows the intricacies of such repair work on any item from guns to white wear. That's why we have specialist repairers.

would you not think that the owner surley would have known by the excessive force he had to put on the round to chamber it that extracting the case was not going to be an easy job?
What would have happened if he fired the thing?
i think this is a learning curve for both parties, if the gun was repaired at cost price there would be a happy outcome for both sides
Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts
It's irrelevant what the client is assumed to know. The smith is the professional and the onus is on him to ensure the client is fully aware of the risks. The client is protected by various consumer guarantees. The service provider must protect himself by communicating fully, all aspects of his intended work on the clients item to the client.

Disagree, someone fucks something then expects someone to fix it without fucking it

Kind of the same thing but not quite. My brother had his clutch cover (I think) cracked on his KTM and it got taken to the bay today. The guy said it'll be done by 4, went there at 4. It wasn't done so they did it while mum waited to pick it up and it was free because they didn't do it by 4 like they said.
I thought that was bloody good of them
Edit: Nope its not the same thing at all
VIVA LA HOWA
Wow you are one worked up puppy.
I think there are faults on both sides
I think the gunsmith didn't communicate as he should have, I also think the owner has had a brain failure to do what he has done
Stuff ups on both sides, repair at cost price for components and free labour
How hard is that?......... It ant

No, I'm just being rational and have no connection to either party so no emotion at all, one way or the other.
There may have been faults both sides, but it's the owners prerogative to abuse his property, not entirely sensible though it may have been. The service provider however, expecting to be paid, needs to be much more careful.
At least we agree that the service provider in this instance did not communicate as he should have. And that is the crux of the matter right there.

Fair enough, forums are great

"All care no responsibility" by the service provider is fine, but this has to be communicated and understood by customer before any work commences.
shit situation for all involved.
cant comment on this particular incident as i dont have all the info, but if my item was damaged and i was unaware of any possible dangers due to work being done, i would be furious, and expect subsequent damage repaired at no extra cost to me.
on the flip side, i occasionally format/ reinstall os on ppls computers, it doesnt matter how many times you say, 'everything will be permanently gone/wiped/deleted, backup everything you want to keep, you will have to reinstall all programs again' etc, as soon as they get computer back its always, 'wheres my programs, wheres my documents' ppl just dont listen. lol
shame you cant clone a gun to start over like you can a hard drive.![]()
There's a replacement on tard me for $350 bucks I think, I'll give ya $50 bucks for the old one sight unseen. If youve got old rifles like this you need to learn how to shoot them!
I have shit loads of probs shooting some of mine, but you need to to love em to shoot em, makes me appreciate shooting my Sako!
Shame on you cuz Wayne hahahahahahahahaha
Boom, cough,cough,cough
Hi Maca, thanks for your generous offer. Why someone would want to out themselves is a bit odd but oh well. To be fair everything that Wayne has said is mostly true apart from the extractor being broken before coming in and the de capping tool was actually a primer seating tool (de capping tool has the pin bit at the end to push the primer out). I had had good dealings with the shop before and had actually got the sights mounted and the rifle checked by the gunsmith there as safe to fire before I fired it so when the cock up occurred I phoned ahead and after trying to clear it with a rod as per their suggestion they said just better bring it in to us. Phoned back and they managed to clear the round which was awesome but in doing so broke the extractor and drilled thru both the rear and then the side of the case and continued into the chamber. I'm no expert that's for sure which is why I took into into the "professionals" to start with but to me that seems like a pretty big stuff up, I mean if it was your cousin doing it for free after a couple of beers with his cordless drill I'd understand but it's not and that's why u take stuff to "the pros". When I suggested a phone call giving me a heads up on the impending damage to the rifle would have been good this was returned with an aggressive response. If it was my car and I backed into my own letterbox while intoxicated that wouldn't be a reason for the mechanic after taking on the job to pass judgement on my bad actions and use it as an excuse to do a poor job and not fixing any additional negligent damage without warning which is a legal requirement in the consumer guarantees act and then charging for the pleasure. Would recommend them for retail but never any gunsmith work and best of luck getting a fair and reasonable response if you ever have any problem. Over and out!
