Do you reckon if you got 2 baikals in 9.3 x 74r and glued them together you could say you had a double rifle? :p

Bet your PH wouldn't be very impressed!

Yeah I would be looking at chopping and suppressing it with a 2-7 scope for the tight bits

Can't believe I am saying this, but the Rossi deal at Gunshitty is pretty sweet. 399 for the rifle puts in on par with Baikal price, and 149 for second barrel !

223/308 or 22-250/7-08 would cover you for just about anything.

Baikal do a double in 45/70. Reloaders sell them for $1249 Baikal MP-221 ARTEMIDA 45/70

I've never had a problem with either Gun City or my Rossi Pomba. Purchases are always a simple thing from the Christ Church franchise. I identify what it is that I want, the price I'm willing to pay, click the button and in two or three days it arrives in or on my rural post box every time, albeit much to my wife's dismay.
The 44 Rossi digests anything from 180 gr lead to 300gr CMJ without a hitch and rings gongs with all the authority of a rifle costing $300. Couldn't ask for more.

What would you buy with prices being the same?

    Single cal, still the Baikal...

Just too many complaints about cases stuck, action not opening etc with the Rossi to feel comfortable with the quality.

Had a look at the Rossi this morning, The little "wings" on the fore-end look pretty weak. Sights are plastic fantastic compared to metal. Lock-up wise I'd say the Baikal is more solid. The Russian barrels are also known to be surprisingly accurate.

If you're getting it for a bush gun, do yourself a favour and get skinner sights. NZ$150 landed for front blade and rimfire dovetail rear. The front blade can do with a bit of thinning.

If you absolutely have to put a scope on it, the Rossi is easier, comes with a rail. Reloaders sell a single piece mount and rings thingy, for the Baikal, but eye relief can be tricky.

The barrel length I measured for the Baikal was 23.5" and there is nothing left behind the bolt face unless it is scoped. I'll have a play with the trigger and once sorted will get it shortened and threaded.

Closing the open action cocks it.

You can decock while closed by taking up pressure on the lever under the grip and pulling the trigger and slowly releasing the lever Practise with empty chamber ...

The first part of the squeeze on the lever cocks it.

yeah Ideally it would be nice to have some sort of semi readiness otherwise hunting with and fumbling round with loading while trying to be quiet and sneaking around would be hard work
