    Ruger 1022 info

Gday. I have a ruger 1022 project. I was wondering how short I can cut Barrel before it messes with the chambering system. Also what other mods have people done.

I've done a load of tinkering over the years with 1022's - they are not renowned for their accuracy, and in my experience cutting a standard barrel down makes matters worse. The minute a standard 'cut' barrel heats they start spraying. If you want a shorty get a heavy bull barrel.

You might want to clarify what you mean.... 'messes with the chambering system'.

I've cut a 12ga semi barrel down and once I done that it wouldn't chamber the next load on its own. I'm wondering if the same thing will happen

If it was a gas operated one sometimes you can drill bigger holes in the gas port to fix it, if it's inertia a lighter spring is needed

1022's will still happily operate down to very short barrel lengths - much shorter than required to get to 762, allegedly
