I would look at the 2.5-10x42 NF compact , and the Bushy 3-12x44mm LRHS & maybe the Steiner T5Xi ( from beretta NZ ) .

I had the NF 2.5-10x32 with medium velocity reticle. It's an awesome scope and the reticle graduations worked well with my .308. But there are much lighter and cheaper scopes out there if you only wish to shoot to 400

I have that S&B on a rifle (FD7 not FD4) awesome daylight flash dot.
It's a heavy scope! 10x will be good for the longer stuff but the 32mm objective might be a bit small for the bush.

On a side note, my 52mm Kahles 4-12 pissed all over the Schmidt in low light......!!!!!

I found these photos on the net before I got mine:

Kahles Helia 5 1.6-8x42i ? Might be a good choice.

I have just got this Leica for my 260:

Dial, zero stop, locking turret, mil - what more could you want?

If you go up to 10x, I would look at whether you want parallax adjustment. Depending on your age and eyes it can be harder to get both reticle and target in very sharp focus at once but side parallax fixes that. Also allows clear vision at short range in the bush. Sharp focus is as helpful as quite a bit of light gathering in being able to see in dim forest. So have a careful look through 8 or 10x and think if you really want that extra mag because it costs you in weight and length. Also, have a good look through the scope with illumination on in the dark and make sure the crosshair isn't flaring due to cataracts. Also, if it's FFP, try it on lowest power in a dark corner of the shop because the reticle can go very skinny and you will be relying on the illumination. You're putting up a lot of money so take your time and try to get a good look through actual scopes with the reticle you're interested in, which can be quite difficult to arrange.

I've got the Nightforce velocity reticle on my Sako 85 7-08 Finnlight, nice scope (2.5x10x32) but wish for a little more magnification. It's dropped a few deer but generally use the 300wm and larger NF scope nowadays.
