Hi Guys, I’m looking at putting a factory 338 barrel on a sako 85, any thoughts? It’s not a rifle I’ll hold on to. Too much cash tied up. But it’s with that or a carbon 308 barrel goes on it… too many cool projects and not enough time or cash 🙄😆

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
You are in trueflite hood. They have the barrels and the reamer. What are you waiting for?
Id think youd have dificulty sselling ot with 358 barrel on.
Maybe just sell the gun unbarelled if you font have a good barrell in a standard cartridge to put on.
A carbon 308 barrell would be a bit “special” but easier to sell.
.338 fed are just about extinct.

Been shooting the Federal for 13 years and love it.
The only thing wrong with my Tikka is that its not an 85.
If you did it you would have an awesome all round bush gun for big critters, small critters, from muzzle to 300.
If you want to sell it later though put a standard caliber barrel on it.
358 win any day, that big frontal area smacks hard, lots of optons at low and medium velocities and ranges
but if you are looking to sell it and you have access to a carbon 308 then thats got to be the easy sell item.

What about selling the action and barrel(s) separately?
I love my 338 federal, 175gr @ 2700 from a 18" barrel,
Can be hard to find suitable projectiles as most are designed for bigger cartridges.
