    Sako A1 222

Common theme it seems..police issue 222 used to belong to a deceased mate so sentimental value. Exterior and stock excellent (see blued steel walnut thread). First third of barrel severe fire cracking no rifling left towards throat. I think its too good not to rebarrel. Either 223 or 222 12” twist? Keep old barrel with open sights in case someone wants to do a full CM blued restoration and refit open sights. Want to stick with 223 or 222 rather than a 6mm option. Suggestions??? Any good used barrels out there or which new ones to consider?

I rebarreled mine with 1-8 twist Hardy in 223. Shoots well.

Give it to Grant at Trueflite, ask him to match the barrel, and have the action and barrel KG coated to match the original blue. Does excellent work, quality barrels and very easy to deal with.

My rebarreled 1:12 223 shoots 60gr flat base really well. If you want to shoot the heavies with a 1:8 your mag is the restriction at 58.5mm.

If you want "original" Hugh Bradley is doing chrome-moly barrels, then you can have it reblued, a much more sympathetic treatment than a coating for a classic rifle . . . .

Or rebarrel with one of the 1:9 CZ takeoffs that are floating round just now - also blued.

Where does one source a CZ takeoff barrel? I hear you on the CM blued aesthetic..

Hey guys I have an A1 222 that is ex police.

Can you help me with the bore diameter?

I noticed it shoots the early Lapua 50gn .222 projectiles better than the modern .224 pills I have tried.

The difference is a single ragged hole compared to 1".

In terms of restoring the work blueing and stock is a cerakote in socom blue and finishing the stock with true oil the way to go?
    Warm Barrels!

Despite people saying all Sako 222's shoot one hole like a laser with anything....it's BS. I've had a few A1's in 222 and they were all fussy little shits. Find the projectile that works for you and stick to it. Its been documented that a period of A1 production was not as good a quality as earlier L461 and the later A1 & S491, possibly due to cost cutting at Sako.
Socom blue is supposed to be the closest colour to bluing apparently, with regard to oil finish, what about the juice that @ChrisW was using on his Sako 22? Looks like a nice finish. Maybe Chris can enlighten us again to what it was.

@Mathias , sure, its called Shaftol stock oil. I used the "light brown" colour. It also comes in some darker shades.
Its used frequently on crazy expensive shotguns.
