A good Vixen will usually attract a wee bit more than a similar vintage and condition Forester.

Bought my Forester (59 quid 17/6) in 1967. All the oldies said I was mad. Others asked if it was made in Japan.
Tradesman's weekly pay at that time was 25 notes.

Within 10 years of that Sako brand was starting to get common.

I have seen the long action 'Forrester's' for sale for $8-900 for very tidy rifles. I remember asking Robbie Tiffen two years ago about one for sale at Hamills in Rangiora - I thought it was cheap for such a very good rifle. Robbie said that they are just hard to sell because they are heavy compared to modern rifles. So even the short action may not have a market price that reflects what a really top notch firearm they are. I cant think of a better action or stock for a hunting rifle

My Swedish mate laughs at my Kiwi pronunciation of Bofors/Husqvarna/Ljungman/Oerlikon etc

Bofors/"Boofos" correct
Husqvarna/"Hooskvarna"correct
Ljungman/ "Yungman" correct
Oerlikon /Ooerlekon correct

Might come in handy one day if you are trying to buy something in Skandi.

Was lucky enough to get a Forester in 6mmRemington off a forum member, using some PonyTokens. Been a tad busy, but am rather looking forward to using it I must say

No its the Germanic pronounciation of the region where the Gun was produced and named after.
I think Bofors made them too or perhaps both the British and Germans made them from Bofors Steel?

There are Italian,French and Swiss German speaking Cantons of CH.The two former languages probably say it differently.

As always, depends who wants it and why. I've got no idea what the collector types will pay but I have payed from $600 to $1400 for good user Foresters.

I have no idea. Wood, blued, euro guns are not my thing.
He has been offered 1800 by a friend of mine but I haven't had an answer yet.
But I'd say it will be sold

They don’t come up in .243 much either. Typically they will always fetch more than a Forester in 270 or 30/06. Personally I’d buy that over a vixen- just a more versatile calibre. Interestingly that Finnwolf on TM went for $2400 the other day, but it looked close to brand new and they’re a bit thin on the ground.

I'd say 1800 is pretty fair both ways
I would have thought less but that's because I seem to attract 243s like flies to shit
He could list it for more on trademe and pay all the fees to end up with a hundred or two more if he found the right buyer

Wasn’t the long action Sako of this era the ‘Finnbear’...? Forester was the medium action L579.

Saw a dude in a Palmerston north gun shop over 20 years ago talking to an older gentlemen about a sako finnwolf that he had brought in to possibly sell.
It was all about how it wasn't worth much because kiwis don't like lever actions and they are too noisy to operate in the bush etc. He was sort of correct but still thought he was doing the used car sales pitch to bring the price down
I wasn't that far away and it looked in pretty tidy order. You know the type-bought years ago by a farmer with a bit of coin from the wool cheque but shot bugger all and put away.
I cant remember how much he was offering but I do recall thinking it was very cheap especially being a Sako, and if i'd had the money I would've offered him what the gun shop was.
My other thought was to go over and tell him how much gobshite the dude was saying but thought better of it lol

Yes, long action was a finnbear. Actions are very long for .30/06 case as also fit the .375 H&H.

Stock have a thin sharp comb that belts cheek bones when shooting prone.
