Nah, you got to be careful with that. On mid range cheaper scopes that just go above the GST threshold it's not much different. I did a similar thing a couple of weeks back and it was cheaper and faster to buy it here. But I did end up buying a spotting scope and rangefinder form the US too.
Those VX2's are $299- $349USD RRP and with at least $40USD postage and then 15% GST, + customs clearance charge and the 3% your CCard company will charge for an overseas transaction it's similar/cheaper in this example to buy it here anyway and you get it right now. Best thing about overseas is the range of options. No one can afford to carry everything over here.
So, Reloaders does that scope in 3 diff reticles for $499 new. You have to go up to the 4-12x before you break $700.
Hopefully if he was lucky he got the newer VX2 rather than a VXII. Still it's good deal though and has the life time warranty.
