IMHO
Vortex size for size power for power are not a patch on a vx 3 or vx 6.
sorry guys but you are pulling your dick if you think they are similar optically.
Yes the Vortex do represent very good value for money in some price brackets, but they are not "as good as a vx3 or vx6" as the H&F salesmanwoman will tell you.
The budget <$600 weavers I have had had very good glass for the money ,repeatable adjustments tho they didn't do what they said they would do they were repeatable.
And as I said glass was good for the money as long as you never took it out of the hot water cupboard.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
When I looked into getting an American Swarovski Ifound the warranty was only valid in USA .
Ive woundmy 3-12*50 up and down and found in low light you can seethe most at 7-X . Higher mag does concentrate the light but no use if the exit pupil Is Smaller than your own eye's' pupil.
The super slam is good-has diallable turrets. The main drawbacks are not Very bright and a restrictted FOV at all power. You need to look through one before buyinh but for 80% tops they would be vrry good.
You dont need to dial wind just elevation. Sho leup cds and swaro ballistic turret are ok.
My advice is to compromise on the numbers go for modest spec but good model . EgLeupold V×3 3.5to 10 x40 or 4.5-I4X but with CDS they will be more than $800.
I think one of the keys here is to try and stick to mils with your metres as you have figured out and is what I have been trying to do also and keep all scopes the same, either metric or imperial. mil/mil scopes seem to be coming out more regularily these days. Either is fine but think better to try do one or other. Although if using a CDS turret wouldn't matter so much.
Be careful throwing one of the optically "amazing" massive scopes on rifle as they look great in magazines untill you see the size of them and have to lug around all day you might be wishing for the 3-9 back....
Heard good things about the Weavers also being a very good scope for light gathering for price...most are imperial though..
My next door neighbour actually solved this darkness/optical problem we now face way back in the eighties when i was a kid by using an aircraft landing light as apotlight and opensight .303. He was a pragmatic West Coaster
after being there done that a few times now, all i will say is double or triple the budget and get something great to start with,
cant beat euro glass
mite sound like a lot of money now but you will never regret buying quality
