I think I actually ended paying around NZ$420 in the end for the 4.5-14x42 and I have no regrets in the purchase. Have since hit hares at 685 yards (video on forum thread "Burris C4"), and steel targets at 1000yards, it returns to zero and back without any issues. Sure the VX6 can offer the same, but not the same price. However, I see Hunting and Thieving have them at $899 retail here in NZ, might as well buy the Vortex HR LR or VX3 (if they can get you the reticle you want, and not just fine duplex) at that price.

If the bulk of your hunting is bush i would be looking for less than 4x if the bulk of your hunting is open country you will get away with 4x in the bush but not ideal.

Just my humble opinion having been up and back down the mag range.
How much better is 2x lowend vs 3x lowend in the bush in your opinion? I'm looking at VX-6's, either the 2-12x or the 3-18x. Rifle will be an allrounder. Since it will also be used in the bush, which would you go for?

3 is fine in all but the thickest shit but the field of view and light gathering on 2 is just awesome.
    Fast target acquisition.
I went with the 2-12 cos its on a 308 so i won't be shooting past 1100y on targets , but Im sure the 3-18 would be nice in the bush also.

On the whole topic of importing scopes, how do customs contact about duty required? As I have purchased a Burris c4, its in NZ at the mo, but am expecting payment to be made to them

In the past they have sent a letter to the delivery address with and invoice, this will include GST, Biosecurity fee and most likely a Document fee. I don't think Duty will be included on a scope, but could be wrong on that one. I didn't have to pay any duty on my range finder, but did pay the other fees and GST. Still cheaper than buying locally, by a bit.

Went with the 3-18x with illuminated reticle in the end. Was a tough choice. Played with them both, indoors and out, for about an hour.

As mentioned the 2x was better at 10-20m, but I figure I'm not that stealthy haha.

I brought a rangefinder from the US and it arrived like any other item I had brought.
I didn't have to pay any fees of any type. It was under the $400 gst threshold, so I didn't pay a cent more.

Just spent a day in Cabela's in Fort Worth Texas last week whilst doing some work. Amazing selections as you would expect ... but not much in the high end ... also went to a couple of other specialist stores ... way cool. I bought some really cool predator calls which I'm keen to try out and picked up a scope. Whoever the NZ agent for Swarovski is ... he's an absolute margin thief ... less than half price.

Sweet cheers. Is there a way to check if a scope is in stock on that site? (Optic Zone)
