For sure you do have to pick your reticle for a FFP scope if your going to use it for general or close in hunting. The P4F on my S&B is more than adequate for 100 to 1000m shooting.
Going by the spec the N/F MIL-R F1 reticles should be fairly useful as well but I haven't looked through one.

As for the Nightforce, get an answer from them.

Adding maths to your process is asking for failure

you still haven't clarified whether you felt that the FFP reticle was too thick on low power, because that's certainly what your comment reads like

Right, so that's more a problem of selecting an inappropriate scope for the usage than anything relating to FFP?

I'm very happy with my FFP 3-12x S&B for any and all shooting. It's thick enough for fast close shots, has illumination for shooting on dark where the fine reticle does actually become a bit hard to pick up, and fine enough to shoot any target I could reasonably hope to hit at long range, i.e., can easily see enough of a magpie to shoot at it at 800 meters.

    Hi Doc

I think you will find the issue is a result of the scope having the huge range of adjustment , the internal tube is canting into the large field of view , but i think this only can be seen on the lowest mag setting ( is this right? ) when you have a narrower field of view using the higher setting for shooting LR (as you would when dailing 120+ MOA its not an issue as it does not appear. This isnt apparent on other scopes where they lack the internal adjustment matching the NF

Hmmm.. just tried the 52mm March with 120moa, only a 30mm tube, pretty good field of view on 2.5x and sight picture is clear all the way to the end. It is SFP though.

Hey Jason yeah I think you are right.

But I'm only getting at the very most 100moa before it goes noticeably out of line?

an true it's worse on low mag but still very apparent at max magnification.

Because I am not the original owner of this scope I won't speculate anymore on why this is occurring.
I will bring it up your way next time I'm up and we can see what's what.

    Ps
Does the new one you have go out of line/ same problem also ?

    Hi Ben

yeah about 100 MOA before i can see it on 5 power , everything above 9 power its not there , Its the same on all the units i have checked , dont use 5x for LR shooting and you wont see it :-) , definately a FFP thing , no sight picture change in the SFP ATAC-R's
