Scope for medium range shooting: recommendations please.

I sold the S&B PMII that I had on my Howa,it was too much scope for what I was doing and made the rifle feel top heavy. Here are my criteria for what I want for distances out to 500m in a 308 win.

1)Fairly light weight (one inch tube is fine)

2)Dial up turrets with zero stop

    3) illuminated recticle

    4) Up to X16 magnification.

I tend to stick to European glass, although Vortex seems to have decent reviews so I wont count it out.

I have the funds from the PMI to spend plust I sold some other gear I wasnt using,so the budget is pretty healthy for this purchase,\.

A z5 swaro or a lightweight 30 mm scope. Vx5 2-10x or similiar. These will be a bit heavier though.

I've got a VX6 2-12 LR Firedot sat here which I was planning to put on the boys 243, but I have decided being a young fella it will get ruined.

Vortex would be ok on a slingshot or child’s toy

Even then it’s not that great

Two votes for the Swaro, any one else got any feedback on Kahles or S&B?

I have a Kahles on my 8X57 and had a Meopta which was very bright for the money. I just have no experience with their dial up scopes.

There are some newer kahles 1” tube scopes. Kahles Helia 3 is the model. They go a 3-12 x 42 with different turret and reticule options. Pricing here is stupid but maybe better in Norway. Would be a nice scope.

Im a big fan of Kahles. The Helia 3 looks like it fits the criteria nicely.

Yup I am a big Kahles fan too and have had a few - still have a 3-9 x 42 with the 4D reticle which is a great little scope. The new 3-12 x 42 with the ballistic turret option looks pretty nice eh?

Norsk said he has a bit of money though, so I'd recommend a 3-24 March with a FML reticle. I know he said 16x was enough, so just don't wind the x's past there. It is light, absolutely reliable, the reticle rocks and the glass is really good.

Interesting That I found the same. I bought one when I was in the states and they were first being pushed in NZ. because they were meant to be the new leupold but better. Instead it was just not as good with even worse low light ability if that could be possible.
